Stephen D. Barker, President of Catellus Group, has specialized in all facets of commercial-investment real estate including but not limited to, development, rehabilitation, management and finance since 1970.
Mr. Barker received his BA from Central Michigan University and began his career as a commercial loan officer with Community National Bank of Pontiac in Pontiac, Michigan. Since founding Catellus Group, he has received the "Exchangor of the Year" award in 1982, the "Creative Transaction of the Year" in 1983 from the Michigan Association of Real Estate Exchangors and the "Counselor of the Year Award" in 1992 from the National Society of Exchange Counselors.
Mr. Barker currently holds the professional designations of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) and Society of Exchange Counselor Member (S.E.C.). The Realtors National Marketing Institute awards the CCIM designation after completion of prescribed graduate level courses in investment, taxation, developing and marketing of all types of commercial and investment real estate. The CCIM designation is considered a highly valued asset of the commercial Investment Real Estate profession and is a preferred prerequisite to obtaining the S.E.C. designation.
The Society of Exchange Counselors (S.E.C.) is a national marketing group, which meets six times per year. Its main function is to provide a forum for the disposition, acquisition and financing of local and national properties. Membership in the Society, after a 3-5 year candidacy, is by invitation only and candidates are selected on the basis of their integrity and competence in real estate and finance.
Mr. Barker is a sought after lecturer and moderator at national marketing sessions and has been a guest lecturer at the university level and major real estate seminars around the country.
